One chose to pursue this career for the networking. He found it to be interesting, and always changing. It was something enjoyable to learn, and he was good at it.
What events, prior employment, or educational experiences led you to your current job?
Internships, networking was just starting.
What schooling, education, and/or certifications did you complete to prepare you for this career?
BS - Computer Science
How did you make the best use of your time in both your education and career?
The programming background gave him the chance to see what was possible to support the organization and see what was needed. He started out in operations, and it gave him the background for design and manger positions. He enjoys the job and the people.
What advice would you give to a high school or college student interested in pursuing this field of work?
Find a 9 to 5 job. One may not want to be tied to weird hours. He worked operations and when things were challenging/wrong he was the first one to call. It was hard to maintain work and family life
What opportunities would you suggest high school students participate in?
Cisco. It is free virtual lab equipment to build, test and learn things in the field. It gives hands on experiences to get started.

What do you wish you had done differently with regards to your career/education?
Was in an unhealthy job prior to the current one and should have left earlier. “Know when to get out”
What does a typical day at your job look like?
A typical day is working with people and tech. There are many team building and motivation experiences. One needs to assess where they have needs and look for solutions - tech wise. One needs to assess whether the team is ready to make changes to adopt the newer infrastructure.
What qualities are necessary to be successful in your field of work, and why?
One needs to be a good listener, a good collaborator, and work well in a team environment.

No matter what a company is doing, their information and tech department plays a key role to success.
